Alpha Slot Abilities
The Paragon Wiki Archive documents the state of City of Heroes/Villains as it existed on December 1, 2012. |
In Alpha Wolf, there are two special features: a standard Free Spins bonus triggered by 3 or more Bonus symbols and a Progressive Jackpot feature awarded when you land a 5-reel non-wild line hit. Alpha's products are designed, built, selected, and used by Paul Pfeiffer, three time World Champion and three time National Champion. Our uncompromising commitment to quality and the valuable input from the Team Alpha racers assure you of the finest products available in slot racing. The Alpha brings flexible RGB lighting control to the Hero, while costing much less than the Formula - great for adding aesthetic pizzazz to a high-end system. Unable to find the encounter slots online for the Pokemon games and after listening to the concerns of other players, I decided to take the initiative and host them myself. Of course I take no credit for determining the slots in the game-huge thanks to all the developers and data miners for that!
Overview
Requires a VIP subscription.
The Alpha Slot is the first 'level' of the Incarnate System, which launched with Issue 19, and requires a subscription to utilize. The Alpha Slot includes a Level Shift at higher tiers. The Common and Uncommon boosts were released with Issue 19; the Rare and Very Rare boosts were released with the Strike Pack, a post Issue 19 update on February 2, 2011.
Alpha Slot Benefits
The Alpha Slot can be unlocked in several ways:
- By completing Mender Ramiel's arc, which is meant to introduce a character to the Incarnate System by advancing the in-game story-line and lore, and explaining the mechanics of how the Incarnate System works.
- Earning Incarnate Experience, either Physical or Psychic, by running Incarnate Trials.
- Directly purchasing Incarnate Experience, either Physical or Psychic, using Incarnate Threads and Inf.
- Purchasing an Unlock Alpha Slot Voucher from Astral Christy for 5 Astral Merits.
A character can access their Incarnate Abilities Window even before any Incarnate Slots are unlocked, where they can manage all their Incarnate abilities.
Once the Alpha Slot is unlocked, the character:
- can fill the Alpha Slot with an Alpha Slot Ability which can grant universal power aspect enhancements, a level shift, and bonuses to certain in-game tasks.
- starts getting Incarnate Shards as a drop from defeating foes.
- starts getting Incarnate Components or Incarnate Shards as a reward for certain Raids and Task Forces.
- can access a third build.
- can join activities restricted to Incarnates. This includes the Tin Mage and Apex Task Forces.
- If the Alpha Slot is empty, the character suffers from a -4 Level Shift during these activities.
- If the Alpha Slot has an ability slotted, the character does not suffer from the negative shift during these activities.
- can receive the Notice of the Well Incarnate Component from the Weekly Strike Target.
The Unlocking Process
The normal course of unlocking the Alpha Slot follows this general plan:
- Run Mender Ramiel's arc to unlock the Alpha Slot and get the character's first Incarnate Shard
- Determine which Alpha Slot Ability works best for said character. That will determine which Incarnate Components are required to craft.
- Run the Task Forces or Raids needed to get those specific Incarnate Components. Alternatively, a character can accumulate enough Incarnate Shards from defeating Level 50+ foes in order to craft the Components necessary. The second method is usually more time consuming, but is accessible for more casual players.
- Craft and equip the Alpha Slot Ability.
- The character can now work towards another or a higher tiered Alpha Slot Ability.
Alpha Slot Mechanics
- With regard to the Tin Mage and Apex Task Forces, a character is prevented by the game from joining if they do not have the Alpha Slot unlocked. If the Alpha Slot is unlocked, but is not slotted with an Alpha Slot Ability, then they can participate, but at a -4 Level Shift. Thus, they will be at eight levels lower than the Level 54 foes, hitting at 5% of their normal damage due to the Purple Patch.
- All Common and Uncommon Alpha Incarnate Components can be crafted from Incarnate Shards; therefore, no one specific Raid or Task Force is required to create a Common or Uncommon Ability.
- Rare-tier Alpha abilities require a Notice of the Well uncommon salvage which can be acquired by running the Weekly Strike Target.
- Very Rare-tier Alpha Abilities require a Favor of the Well that can be crafted from two Notice of the Well, it also consumes any two Rare-tier Alphas in order to craft the Very Rare one.
- The reason why the Incarnate Component Gr'ai Matter can be bought with Vanguard Merits is because the Rikti Mothership Raid doesn't have a reward table for completing it.
- Characters can switch between Alpha Abilities by simply equipping a new ability. The old ability is not lost, but simply switched out. There is a 5 minute cool down between equips. Also, equipping an ability is prohibited by being in combat and may require additional cool down time or leaving the mission to equip.
- The Alpha Ability cannot be slotted or changed in Ouroboros.
- Higher-tier Alpha Abilities consume a lower tier ability when crafted. Characters can have several higher-tiered abilities, but if they're in the same 'tree', then they'll have to re-craft the lower tiered ability again for each higher-tiered ability they want to have.
Historical
This article or section contains information about changes that took place in City of Heroes Freedom. It is provided for historical purposes. |
- The Alpha Slot was initially supposed to launch with Going Rogue, but beta feedback said without content to play with the Alpha Slot, the system felt incomplete, so it was pushed back[1].
- The Alpha Slot was added to the game in Issue 19; at that time, the only way to unlock it was via Mender Ramiel's story arc.
- When Incarnate Experience was added to the game as a reward from the Lambda Sector and Behavioral Adjustment Facility Trials in Issue 20, the Alpha Slot was also made unlockable via both Psychic and Physical Incarnate Experience.
- When Incarnate Merit Vendors were added to the game in Issue 20.5, an Unlock Alpha Slot Token was made available for 5 Astral Merits. This token can be purchased by any character on an account, and is awarded as a Character Item.

Skyforge is a free-to-playmassively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Allods Team in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, and published by My.com. Set on the planet Aelion, Skyforge fuses elements of Science fiction and fantasy in its visuals and storytelling, and sees players exploring the world as an immortal who must strive to become a god and defend the planet from alien invasion from other worlds. The project started development in 2010 and received an open release for Microsoft Windows in July 2015, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases following in 2017.[4] The latest major content update, 'Ignition', was released on all platforms in September 2019.[5] A Nintendo Switch version is set to released in February 2021.[3]
Gameplay[edit]
In Skyforge, players assume the role of an immortal with incredible celestial powers who must protect the planet Aelion from invaders who threaten the world and its population.[6] Character progression within the game is not level based;[7] instead of a traditional leveling format, Skyforge features a 'prestige' system, which allows a player to advance based on the sum total of their stats and progression. This allows players to develop and switch between 17 different classes[8] at any time, rather than being locked into a class choice made earlier in the game. As a player gains more prestige, additional content, gear, and followers are unlocked.[9] Once the player becomes a god is achieved Skyforge includes an additional progression system which allows users to manage their followers to increase their character's overall power.[10]
Aelion has a lot of missions to take on and locations to visit. The capital of Aelion serves as the game's hub, with three core locations. The Divine Observatory is where the player can take on missions and visit different locations through a hologram globe. The Divine Observatory allows players to travel to different locations around Aelion, and also participate in player versus player battles. Each location, including Dankit Island, Lanber Forest, and Isola Digs, has multiple objectives, enemies, and storylines. At the Research Center, the player can train, try out different classes, and change the appearance of their character. In the Park, players explore and occasionally hosts events, such as seasonal pumpkin lighting and gift opening events for Halloween and Christmas.
Players can team up with friends and random players online to take on missions and larger raids and instances.[11]
Story[edit]
In the universe of Skyforge, gods derive their powers from their followers. The planet of Aelion was once a free world protected by the Greater God named Aeli, who helped civilization flourish.[12] When the story begins, Aeli has vanished, leaving behind a world of followers which is only protected by immortals (the player characters) and a few remaining lesser gods, leaving it under attack by hostile gods and invading alien forces from neighboring planets. The player starts in the capital of Aelion as an immortal, and after talking to Herida, a goddess and advisor to the immortals, discovers that they were brought back to life after a devastating attack by the Reapers of Death. After choosing a starting class and undergoing combat guides, training, tutorials, and character customization, the player can tackle combat missions around Aelion, fighting off invaders such as the ghastly Reapers of Death, the mechanical Mechanoids, the botanical Phytonides, the amphibious Oceanids, the serpentine Gorgonides, and the astral Demons.
The update New Horizons, released on April 9, 2019, introduced the planet Terra, new story content, and the Draconids, a new enemy race.[5]
Development[edit]
Allods Team, who previously developed the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Allods Online, started developing Skyforge for PC in 2010. It was confirmed that My.com would publish the game.[13] In May 2013, it was announced that Obsidian Entertainment, known for their work on western role-playing video games such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Fallout: New Vegas, would be collaborating with Allods Team on the development of Skyforge.[14] The game entered closed beta in 2015, and received an open public release for Microsoft Windows on 16 July, 2015. On April 11, 2017, Skyforge was released for PlayStation 4.[15] It was also released for Xbox One on November 29, 2017, and is set to released for Nintendo Switch on February 4, 2021.[3]
Business model[edit]
Skyforge is free-to-play[11] but allows players to pay for certain in-game content, including an optional premium status. A store also allows players to purchase certain items, including cosmetics and equipment that gives small stat boosts.
Reception[edit]
Upon its release in 2015, MMORPG.com said that Skyforge was 'easily the best new MMO in recent months.'[16]Rock, Paper, Shotgun reviewer Richard Cobbett said the game was 'one of the more pleasant F2P MMOs I've played of late', and praised the differences between Skyforge and competitors, including its hub world, the scattered quests in open areas, and the 'genuine sense of trying to be a good game first and a profitable one second'.[17]
